To Convert WAV to MP4 with a WAV to FLAC converter is Possible

By: Patricia Warren

If this is the first time you came across such terms as FLAC, WAV or MP4 and you own gadgets such as laptops, PSPs, iPods, etc., then it would do you well to acquaint yourself with them. There is really nothing fancy or technical about them. They are merely acronyms of audio and multimedia file formats. For instance, WAV, also called WAVE, means Waveform Audio Format. It is an IBM and Microsoft audio file format that is commonly used to store audio bitstream on your desktop. It is the standard format used for uncompressed and raw audio in Windows systems.

FLAC, on the other hand, is Free Lossless Audio Codec, a lossless audio data compression file format. Loss formats are the opposite of the lossy formats (MP3, Vorbis, AAC, etc.) and unlike them, do not remove any data from the audio stream. It can decrease the storage and bandwidth requirements without the need to sacrifice the audio source' integrity. MP4, otherwise called M4A is an MPEG-4 audio which is often AAC or at times MP2 or MP3 defined in MPEG-4 audio.

To convert WAV to MP4, you can make use of a WAV to FLAC converter or any other audio conversion software that is compatible with any of the mentioned file formats and many other formats that can actually be ripped and converted to another format that your player can read. A WAV to FLAC converter is simply a program that you can download from the internet, usually for free. However, you would not want to get a software that is limited in its capacity to convert formats. It is better to pick one that can convert as many file formats as possible, e.g. one that can convert WAV to MP4, WAV to FLAC, FLAC to AIFF, etc. A software with such capacity may require some fees to be downloaded.
